I am thinking of purchasing this drum sander. I downloaded the user manual and in the troubleshooting section, it mentioned how to correct snipe.

Has anyone had problems with snipe with the performax drum sanders? If so, is it either difficult or impossible to get rid of?

A big reason I am getting this is because of the snipe I experience on my planer. I need something that I can thickness with without snipe.

Sometimes it exists but yes, it's pretty easy to fix. Basically it's a problem with the pressure rollers. If they are not pushing down hard enough (or maybe it's if they are pressing too hard I can't remember) you'll get the typical little divot about 2" from the end. The manuals talk you through it pretty well and customer tech support is awesome about helping you out.
So I wouldn't say it's a problem and if it exists, it's definately fixable.

I am going to sell my Delta Thickness Sander. I have had it for about two years... three tops. It is in almost new condition. Some light rust but not anything that a good wire brush and some wd-40 couldn't cure. I am getting a much bigger machine and will no longer have use. I have thicknessed maybe 15 tops and as many backs and sides so it realy doesn't have a whole lot of use on it. Also comes with extra sanding drum attachment and extra sanding belts. the delta will do 18" in a single pass. how much wider top do you plan on building?

And all that time me and my girlfriend ,(back in highschool) were hunting snip in our local woods. When we could have found them at the end of a drum sander

Also works well to get the younger boy scouts out of camp for a few hours.
"Hey why don't you guys go see who can catch the biggest snipe. All you have to do is sit low in the bushes and make a cooing sound. They'll walk right up to you."
Great fun, You would hear cooing for hours.

whist snipe is, in american english, indeed a characteristic of some planers/sanders, it truly is not a mythical creature, except perhaps in backwoods america!

the snipe is a bird related to the sandpiper, and was sufficiently prized by the colonial english of the raj that a specific style of shot gun was created to serve their sport.

Those of us who live/have lived in "backwoods" America know the creature of snipe hunting lore is mythical. It's really only city folks who are enticed to spend long dark hours hunting it...
